INEC Seeks Kogi Traditional Rulers’ Support for Credible 2027 Polls
Independent National Electoral Commission Chairman Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan has called on Kogi State’s traditional rulers to help ensure peaceful and credible elections in 2027.
Amupitan made the appeal on Thursday in Lokoja during a meeting with rulers representing the state’s 21 local government areas. He said his visit was also intended to assess INEC’s staff and facilities ahead of the general election and the upcoming off-cycle governorship poll.
He said the commission was working to improve its readiness through infrastructure upgrades and modern technology. Amupitan urged traditional leaders to use their standing in local communities to encourage voter awareness, peaceful participation and respect for credible results.
Kogi Resident Electoral Commissioner Prof. Shehu Wahab praised the rulers for their cooperation, noting that traditional institutions play an important role in promoting stability and public participation during elections.
The rulers pledged to share Amupitan’s message with their communities and reaffirmed their support for peaceful, transparent and credible polls.
Earlier, Amupitan opened a storage centre for the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System at INEC’s state headquarters in Lokoja, as part of preparations for future elections.
