Tension within the Labour Party has taken a sharper turn as Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, the party’s vice-presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, warned that he is holding onto further damaging information concerning Peter Obi.
The remarks were made during an interview with Symfoni TV, come in the wake of mounting verbal assaults from Obi’s loyal support base, commonly known as the Obidients. Baba-Ahmed expressed frustration that his candid assessments of his former principal routinely draw aggressive pushback from supporters who, in his view, lack a full understanding of the realities behind the scenes.
According to him, the attacks are a direct consequence of his willingness to speak candidly about Obi. He cautioned that if the hostile rhetoric from the support base persists, he may feel compelled to make public more sensitive revelations about both Obi and the events surrounding the 2023 electoral campaign.
Despite the widening rift, Baba-Ahmed maintained that his allegiance to the Labour Party remains intact. However, he made it clear that he refuses to be intimidated into silence by supporters who he believes are blind to the complexities of what transpired during the last election cycle.
The friction between the two political figures has escalated in recent weeks, particularly following Baba-Ahmed’s public reservations regarding Obi’s reported political realignment moves, including discussions around joining an opposition coalition with the African Democratic Congress. Those critical comments sparked outrage among the Obidients, with many accusing him of disloyalty and suggesting alignment with competing political interests.
