The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) has officially recognized the extraordinary contributions of Nollywood powerhouse Toyin Abraham-Ajeyemi, naming her a Box Office Champion. This prestigious honor comes on the heels of the historic success of her latest cinematic venture, ‘Oversabi Aunty,’ which has shattered records and set a new benchmark for the Nigerian film industry.

During the award presentation in Lagos, the Executive Director of the NFVCB, Dr. Shaibu Husseini, characterized the event as a landmark celebration of creativity and excellence. He noted that the recognition was more than just a personal win for the actress; it serves as a powerful testament to the growing economic and cultural influence of Nollywood on a global scale. The film achieved a staggering milestone by grossing over one billion naira, a feat that highlights the immense potential of homegrown stories.

Dr. Husseini also conveyed warm regards from the Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy, Barr. Hannatu Musa Musawa, who was attending official engagements in the United Kingdom. The Minister expressed her full support for the initiative, emphasizing that the government remains committed to fostering a film culture that contributes significantly to the national economy.

The ceremony was further graced by the presence of Olori Temitope Ogunwusi, the wife of the Ooni of Ife, who served as the Mother of the Day. Adding a layer of social depth to the celebration, the Olori remarked that beyond its commercial success, ‘Oversabi Aunty’ carries a vital message regarding modern parenting. She pointed out that the film encourages a closer, more communicative bond between parents and their children, a theme that resonated deeply with the audience.

Echoing these sentiments, the National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Sanusi Abubakar Yakubu, described the occasion as a defining moment where art and enterprise meet. He praised Toyin Abraham-Ajeyemi as a pioneer who has redefined what is possible in the industry. With the film’s performance reaching approximately ₦1.6 billion, Yakubu noted that Nigerian cinema is no longer seeking external validation but is instead asserting its dominance and commanding attention worldwide.

In her heartfelt response, a visibly moved Toyin Abraham-Ajeyemi expressed her deep appreciation to the NFVCB for recognizing her hard work at such a pivotal stage of her career. She also extended her gratitude to the various industry stakeholders and specifically thanked Olori Ogunwusi for her presence, which she said added immense dignity to the event. The gathering brought together the brightest minds in the creative sector, reinforcing the idea that Nigerian cinema has become a primary driver of both cultural expression and economic prosperity.
