The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has once again declared Abdulrasheed Maina wanted. The former chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team is wanted in connection with an alleged case of receiving stolen property.
In the public notice released by the anti-graft agency, Maina is identified as a native of Biu in Borno State. Authorities are urging anyone who might have credible information regarding his current whereabouts to reach out immediately. Tips can be channeled directly to any of the commission’s regional offices spread across Ibadan, Uyo, Sokoto, Maiduguri, Benin, Makurdi, Kaduna, Ilorin, Enugu, Kano, Lagos, Gombe, Port Harcourt, and Abuja. This development marks another chapter in the long-running legal battles involving the former pension boss and the anti-graft body. A similar declaration was issued back in 2015 when Maina was flagged over alleged ties to a controversial pension biometric contract scandal. That particular case also implicated Steve Oronsaye, a former Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, alongside two others. At the time, the commission brought forward a twenty-four-count charge at the Federal High Court in Abuja, centering on procurement fraud and obtaining money under false pretenses.
Years later, in 2019, Maina found himself facing separate charges brought by the commission, this time revolving around severe allegations of pension fraud and money laundering. As law enforcement steps up efforts to track him down once more.
