Dtunes Rebrands as Swapto to Drive Borderless Transactions

Zoyols News

Financial technology platform Dtunes has changed its name to Swapto as it expands beyond its original cash out service into broader multi currency management for individuals and businesses in Nigeria.

The company said the rebrand reflects its changing focus on helping customers have greater control over how they hold, exchange and use their money. Swapto said it has already served hundreds of thousands of Nigerian users.

Existing customers are not expected to experience any disruption as a result of the change. The Dtunes app will automatically transition to Swapto, while users’ accounts, balances and transaction histories will remain intact.

According to Swapto founder and CEO Dotun Oyetade, changes in the Nigerian economy since 2021, including the depreciation of the naira and the rise of remote work, have encouraged more Nigerians to keep value in foreign currencies. The growing use of cryptocurrency has also created another way for people to earn and hold money.

Nigeria ranked sixth in the 2025 Chainalysis Global Crypto Adoption Index, with the country recording more than $92.1 billion in on chain value between July 2024 and June 2025, the highest figure in sub Saharan Africa.

The growth of digital assets is also reflected in the number of Nigerians using them. Yellow Card’s 2025 Africa report estimated that Nigeria had about 25.9 million digital asset users in 2025, representing 11.9 per cent penetration.

Oyetade said simply having money in one place does not always give users the flexibility to use it as they want. Many still depend on currency conversions, third party vendors and peer to peer transactions to move their funds.

Swapto is designed to bring more of these functions together on one platform. Oyetade said users can keep their cryptocurrency and decide when to convert it to naira, while their digital assets are held by a digital asset custodian.

Customers who want an automated option can activate AutoSell. Once a transaction is completed, users can also pay for airtime, data and other bills without leaving the platform.

Oyetade said the company sees control over personal funds as a basic part of its service, giving users the freedom to decide when to move their money and what currency or asset to convert it into.

Dtunes was launched in 2021 mainly to help Nigerians convert cryptocurrency into naira. Since then, the platform has completed more than 500,000 swaps across the country.

Oyetade said feedback from customers played a major role in the decision to rebrand, as users increasingly wanted more than a simple cash out service.

He explained that customers wanted greater flexibility over when and how they moved their money, as well as how they used it after conversion.

The new Swapto identity, he said, gives the company room to build services around the changing ways people and businesses manage money.

The rebrand is not expected to alter the company’s core operations, but Swapto plans to use the new identity as a foundation for broader financial services.

Oyetade said the long term vision is to create a platform where individuals and businesses can move between currencies, manage their funds and make everyday payments without having to rely on multiple platforms.
