The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has officially expelled Chief Ganiyu Kolawole Egunjobi and Azeez Yusuf, two close political allies of the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, following accusations of gross disloyalty and anti-party activities.
The disciplinary action was confirmed through an official statement released on Wednesday by the state party chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi. The controversy traces back to the recent party primaries for the Lagos State House of Assembly, where Egunjobi and Yusuf contested the tickets for Agege Constituency I and Agege Constituency II, respectively. Both aspirants failed to secure the party’s nomination during the exercise.
Rather than accepting the outcome or exploring internal grievance resolution channels provided by the political platform, the two politicians reportedly obtained nomination tickets from a rival political party to run in the same electoral cycle. Reports gathered that the state leadership viewed this cross-carpeting as a direct violation of party rules and a blatant breach of membership obligations.
Addressing their subsequent moves, the leadership explicitly dismissed reported resignations tendered by the two politicians, pointing out that these attempts arrived only after the infractions had already been committed, serving merely as an evasion tactic to dodge disciplinary consequences. The party emphasized that while members retain the democratic freedom to pursue elective ambitions, such pursuits must strictly align with internal guidelines and prevailing electoral laws.
Invoking Article 9 of the party’s amended constitution alongside relevant provisions of the electoral framework, Zoyols News understands that the chapter resolved to strip both men of their membership entirely. With the expulsion now in effect, the leadership declared that Egunjobi and Yusuf possess no further authority to speak, negotiate, or transact any business on behalf of the party or in any way present themselves as affiliates of the Lagos APC.
