A 100 year old woman, Hajiya Murjanatu Dan Azumi Rogo, was among 61 students who graduated from Sabilur Rashad Islamic Centre in Kano after completing years of Islamic studies.
Hajiya Rogo, who spent 10 years at the centre, remained committed to her studies despite her advanced age. She began with basic Islamic knowledge and gradually progressed until she was able to memorise the entire Qur’an.
The graduation ceremony, held at the centre’s conference hall on Monday, marked the 20th ceremony organised by the institution.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, TPL Almustapha D. Inuwa, said the graduating class included 31 married women, 23 girls and three boys, while four students had completed the memorisation of the Qur’an.
Inuwa commended the centre’s teachers for their dedication to providing students with sound Islamic knowledge and guidance throughout their studies.
He also called on parents and guardians to place greater emphasis on good character and proper upbringing, saying the achievement of the graduating students was supported by the commitment of their parents and husbands.
The occasion was marked as a joyful moment for the students, their families and the Islamic centre, particularly with the achievement of Hajiya Rogo, whose decade long pursuit of Qur’anic knowledge culminated in her graduation at the age of 100.
