American singer and rapper Faheem Najm, popularly known as T Pain, has taken Konvict Entertainment, the record label founded by Senegalese American singer Akon, to court over an alleged $489,047 in unpaid royalties from his music.
T Pain filed the latest lawsuit at the Fulton County Superior Court in Georgia on September 4, according to court documents.
The dispute centres on about $1.3 million in royalties that Konvict Entertainment allegedly received from a music distributor in March 2026. The payment was reportedly generated from sales of T Pain’s music during the second half of 2025.
According to the singer, a recording agreement he signed with the label in 2005 entitles him to 75 per cent of the net royalties Konvict Entertainment receives from distributors for his record sales.
T Pain claims Konvict paid him $489,047 in June, but argues that the amount represented only half of what he was contractually entitled to receive.
The singer alleges that the remaining share was transferred to BuVision, an affiliate label that has not been named as a defendant in the latest case. He said his representatives were subsequently directed to seek the outstanding payment from BuVision, but their efforts failed to secure the money.
T Pain is also accusing Konvict Entertainment of violating the terms of both his original recording agreement and a settlement reached between the parties in 2025.
The latest lawsuit is not the first time T Pain and Konvict Entertainment have ended up in court over royalty payments. The singer previously sued the label in 2018, alleging that he was owed royalties and other payments connected to his music.
That legal dispute was eventually settled in 2025, with Konvict Entertainment agreeing to pay T Pain $114,000 without admitting liability.
In the new case, T Pain also informed the court that he received separate royalty payments directly from the distributor connected to Freaknik: The Musical.
The latest legal action now puts the long running disagreement between the singer and Akon’s label back in the spotlight, with T Pain seeking payment of the royalties he believes remain outstanding.
