American rapper William Leonard Roberts II, widely known as Rick Ross, found himself behind bars following his arrest in Miami Beach, Florida, over serious allegations involving an assault on a woman at his sprawling Star Island residence.
Zoyols News gathered that the music mogul turned himself in voluntarily to local law enforcement, leading to his booking at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Centre. The legal trouble centers on a felony charge of battery by strangulation alongside a misdemeanor battery charge stemming from late August.
Court documents and police affidavits outline a disturbing sequence of events that allegedly unfolded on August 28, though the victim did not report the matter to authorities until late September. According to investigators, the pair had been cohabitating and involved romantically for roughly a year. The dispute allegedly ignited in the early morning hours when Ross confronted the woman over an Instagram photo in which she had been tagged, quickly escalating into physical violence that included slaps, strikes to the chest, and restricted breathing caused by twisting her hoodie collar.
The situation reportedly escalated further inside a bathroom, where investigators state the artist pulled her by the hair, slammed her against a wall, and struck her face, leaving her with a cut lip. Authorities noted that the altercation continued as Ross attempted to spray her with a showerhead before she eventually escaped the bathroom, gathered her personal belongings, and left the property once the rapper departed. To support her claims, the woman provided police with a sworn statement, time-stamped photographs documenting her injuries, and surveillance footage from the home, which also captured a friend arriving to pick her up only to be turned away.
Throughout the proceedings, the defense has firmly pushed back against the claims. Bradley Horenstein, the rapper’s attorney, has maintained his client’s innocence and urged the public to withhold judgment while the legal system runs its course.
During a Zoom bond hearing presided over by Judge Mindy Glazer, the court found probable cause to move forward with the case. Total bond was set at five thousand dollars, covering both the felony and misdemeanor counts. Following the payment of his bond, Ross secured his release under strict judicial conditions that prohibit him from having any direct or indirect contact with the accuser, visiting her residence, workplace, or school, or possessing firearms. An arraignment has been officially set for October 22 to address the ongoing charges.
