A Lagos State Magistrate Court sitting in Ikeja has ordered the remand of a woman, Funke Femiloba, over her alleged involvement in impersonating OPay Digital Services Limited and defrauding unsuspecting members of the public.
Femiloba was brought before the court on September 24, 2026, facing a four-count charge registered under the case file MIK/P/53/26. According to court filings, the alleged offenses took place earlier that month within the Ikeja Magisterial District.
The prosecution detailed that the defendant allegedly acted alongside accomplices who are currently at large, conspiring to commit felony and obtain money under false pretenses—an offense that violates Section 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015. Additional charges state that she knowingly and falsely presented herself as an official representative of OPay Digital Services Limited, breaching Section 78 of the state’s criminal code. Furthermore, investigators accused her of conducting herself in a manner that could trigger a breach of peace by deliberately misleading citizens, contrary to Section 168(d), alongside extracting funds from individuals in violation of Sections 313 and 314.
During the court proceedings, Femiloba entered a plea of not guilty to all counts brought against her. Because of this plea, the allegations remain formal accusations, leaving the ultimate determination of guilt or innocence up to the court as the legal process unfolds.
Following her plea, the presiding magistrate ruled that the defendant be kept in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service while preparations for the trial move forward. The case has subsequently been adjourned until November 30, 2026, for further hearings.
