The local currency began October on an encouraging note, posting steady gains across both the official trading platforms and the street market.
According to tracking figures obtained by Zoyols News from authorized foreign exchange trading windows, the naira firmed up nicely, exchanging within a band of 1,327.68 to 1,329.50 against the United States dollar. Market watchers attribute this performance to a combination of consistent stability measures and proactive liquidity controls. A notable surge in interbank turnover, which data shows climbed significantly to 179.6 million dollars, provided vital backing for this movement.
Parallel market operators also reported an uplift as street trading saw the greenback change hands around 1,370 naira, improving on previous sessions. This upward drift on the streets has further compressed the margin separating the official rate from the unofficial market, bringing the gap down to approximately 40.50 naira.
Market observers and financial experts speaking with Zoyols News pointed out that a narrowing premium between official channels and unofficial trading desks is a welcome shift for both corporate entities and everyday citizens. When this rate gap tightens, it naturally discourages speculative hoarding and motivates participants to route their foreign exchange dealings through official banking channels.
