Nigeria’s U17 girls, the Flamingos, maintained their perfect start to the 2026 WAFU B U17 Girls Cup after defeating Burkina Faso 2 0 at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium in Yamoussoukro on Monday.
The match proved to be a closely fought contest, particularly in the opening half, as both teams created opportunities without finding the breakthrough. Nigeria controlled much of the possession and applied pressure, but Burkina Faso’s defence stood firm to keep the score level.
The Flamingos eventually found a way through in the 82nd minute when Mary Dunstan calmly finished her chance to put Nigeria ahead.
Burkina Faso struggled to respond as Nigeria grew stronger after taking the lead. The Flamingos then sealed the result deep into stoppage time, with Oluwakemi Adegbuyi finding the net to make it 2 0.
The victory takes Nigeria to nine points from three matches, keeping the Flamingos at the top of the table with a perfect record in the competition.
The result also strengthens Nigeria’s campaign as the team continues its pursuit of the WAFU B U17 title. The Flamingos will now turn their attention to their next fixture, carrying strong momentum from another impressive performance.
