Nollywood star and filmmaker Funke Akindele has marked another historic moment in her career after her latest film crossed the ₦2 billion mark at the box office, further cementing her status as Africa’s highest-grossing filmmaker.
Zoyols Blog gathered that the movie Behind The Scenes officially surpassed ₦2 billion in ticket sales on Monday, a feat confirmed by its distributor, FilmOne Entertainment. The achievement places the film in a league of its own, making it the first West African title to hit the ₦2 billion milestone and the highest-grossing Nollywood film across Africa, the United Kingdom, and Ireland.
The milestone also reinforces Akindele’s dominance at the box office, as she becomes the first filmmaker to top Africa’s box office rankings for three consecutive years. Taking to her official X page on Monday evening, the actress reflected on her journey and expressed gratitude for the continued success of her work.
She described the achievement as a reminder that records are only milestones, not the ultimate goal. From A Tribe Called Judah reaching ₦1 billion to Behind The Scenes crossing ₦2 billion and still counting, Akindele credited the success to divine grace while emphasizing her commitment to storytelling, audience respect, and constant growth in her craft.
Funke Akindele currently holds the record for the three highest-grossing Nollywood films of all time. Behind The Scenes, released in 2025, has earned ₦2,103,039,706 so far. Everybody Loves Jenifer, released in 2024, followed closely with ₦1,882,553,548, while A Tribe Called Judah, released in 2023, grossed ₦1,408,227,541.
With this latest milestone, Akindele continues to redefine success in Nollywood and set new standards for African cinema on the global stage.
