The political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections has taken an intriguing turn following recent high-profile realignments and grassroots mobilisation strategies. In a development that has set political circles abuzz, Abba Abubakar, son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has stepped away from his father’s presidential camp to pitch his tent with President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Addressing a press conference in Abuja, the younger Abubakar announced the launch of the Haske Bola Tinubu Organisation, a nationwide movement designed to rally support for the administration. Clarifying his stance to journalists, he emphasized that his decision was borne out of personal conviction and individual liberty rather than familial alignment, noting that democracy draws its strength from the freedom of choice and independent conscience.
According to him, the newly floated platform is structured to bridge the gap between government policies and ordinary citizens at the grassroots level. He pointed to several policy directions of the current administration as the driving force behind his support, citing the Nigerian Education Loan Fund for students, critical infrastructural investments, increased financial allocations to states, and welfare interventions such as worker transport support. To match these words with action, he revealed plans to deploy luxury buses to ease commuting challenges, starting within the Federal Capital Territory before scaling nationwide, alongside a planned two-million-man mobilisation march across the six geopolitical zones.
Meanwhile, political momentum is simultaneously building up in the northern region, where Dr. Maryam Shetty, Director of the Kano Professional Women Directorate for Presidential and Governorship Elections, has rolled out ambitious plans to rally half a million professional women in Kano State. Speaking to newsmen in the ancient city, Shetty expressed profound optimism in the administration’s trajectory, commending the leadership style of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for giving women a stronger voice and active role in governance.
She explained that the newly unveiled professional women platform is tailored to unite diverse professionals—ranging from medical practitioners and pharmacists to entrepreneurs and skilled experts—into a cohesive force for community development. By fostering collaboration and addressing the unique concerns of professional women, the initiative seeks to move women from the sidelines of public life directly into the engine room of governance and sustainable progress.
