The second edition of Cycling Kano has been scheduled for Saturday, December 12, 2026, as organisers prepare to build on the success of last year’s inaugural event.
Cycling Africa, in partnership with the Kano State Government, announced the date, confirming that the event will once again bring cyclists and enthusiasts together in Kano. This year’s edition will run under the theme, “Water is Life,” with a focus on promoting the sport while drawing attention to the importance of clean water, conservation and the growing impact of climate change.
President of Cycling Africa, Bamidele Adeleye, said the 2026 event would feature more competitive categories, improved safety arrangements along the routes and increased opportunities for discovering young cycling talents.
He also praised Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, for supporting the initiative, describing the partnership as an example of how sports can encourage youth participation, create economic opportunities and promote healthier lifestyles.
Adeleye recalled the impressive performances at the 2025 edition, highlighting professional cyclist Isa Momoh and emerging talents Mubarak Auwal and Islam Yau Abubakar. He said the organisers were looking forward to providing athletes with a bigger platform to showcase their abilities.
“Following the remarkable performances we witnessed in 2025 from professional cyclists like Isa Momoh to young talents like Mubarak Auwal and Islam Yau Abubakar, we are eager to provide an even bigger platform for athletes to excel while championing a cause that affects us all,” he said.
Beyond the sporting competition, the organisers intend to use the event to encourage environmental responsibility and stronger community involvement.
According to Adeleye, the theme “Water is Life” is designed to stimulate public discussions about access to safe drinking water, the need to conserve available water resources and how climate change affects communities in both urban and rural areas.
He described the second edition as another step towards establishing a lasting cycling culture in Northern Nigeria, adding that the initiative would combine sporting excellence with a meaningful social cause.
