Former Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha, has launched a scathing attack on Governor Hope Uzodinma, labeling his recent public display before President Bola Tinubu during an All Progressives Congress event as the height of arrogance.
Appearing on a current affairs program on Channels Television, the former senator representing Imo West expressed deep dismay over how Governor Uzodinma boldly declared that his name would definitely appear on the ballot for the upcoming elections. Okorocha pointed out that making such a definitive declaration while a legal battle regarding the ticket is still actively before the courts shows utter disrespect for the judicial process.
The core of the friction traces back to an intense legal tussle over the Imo West senatorial ticket. Previously, a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja delivered a judgment in favor of Okorocha, naming him the legitimate APC candidate for the district. Presiding over the case, Justice Obiora Egwuatu specifically barred Governor Uzodinma from parading himself as the winner of the primary election held on May, noting that certified evidence proved Okorocha secured the majority of valid votes during the exercise monitored by the electoral commission.
Weighing in on the incident during the presidential campaign council inauguration, Okorocha argued that no individual should arrogate the powers of the judiciary to themselves. He maintained that preempting the outcome of a pending court case while standing before the nation’s leader crosses a line of political humility and propriety.
