The Ekiti State Police Command has taken eleven suspects into custody following the recent violent assault on Omoyele Sowore, a prominent political figure and African Action Congress presidential hopeful, alongside members of his entourage during a visit to a local dining spot in Ado-Ekiti.
Tactical operatives drawn from the command’s Rapid Response Squad tracked down and apprehended the individuals late Friday evening during a targeted raid at a hideout situated within the Atikankan district of the state capital, acting promptly on actionable intelligence gathered from the area.
Those rounded up by law enforcement have been identified as Joseph Tayo, Olatunji Abayomi, Isaac Amba, Kehinde Ajigbana, Tosin David, Solomon Iyanu, Ogunsola Ayomide, Ojo Ayodeji, Kayode Dada, Segun Olatunji, and Salami Emmanuel. During the subsequent search operations, officers recovered a cache of incriminating items from the suspects, including multiple mobile phones, ATM cards, international passports, communication walkie-talkies, wireless internet devices, vehicle keys, assorted identification materials, suspected illicit substances alongside smoking paraphernalia, criminal charms, and a cash sum.
State police authorities revealed that preliminary inquiries are already moving at a steady pace to properly define the exact level of involvement of each detained suspect and uncover any broader networks tied to the brazen raid. The commissioner of police in charge of the command has stepped forward to reassure local residents of absolute safety, stressing that the security apparatus remains resolute and will leave no stone unturned until every single individual connected to the criminal breach faces the full wrath of the law.
Meanwhile, the politician at the center of the storm has voiced strong reservations regarding the scope of the police arrests thus far. In a public statement via social media channels, he argued that picking up foot soldiers does not go far enough, demanding that the actual masterminds, financiers, and coordinators pulling the strings behind the scenes must be fished out and prosecuted.
Characterizing the incident as a deeply coordinated and calculated ambush rather than a spontaneous street scuffle, he also called out the initial framing of the event by security agents and pressed for the immediate retrieval and public release of closed-circuit television recordings from the immediate vicinity of the restaurant to ensure transparency and accountability.
