Tragedy struck along the busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Monday when a promising young footballer lost his life in a devastating crash around the Magboro axis in Ogun State.
According to reports gathered by Zoyols News from emergency responders and law enforcement officials at the scene, the fatal incident involved a Mercedes-Benz C300 and a commercial bus. The crash was reportedly triggered by a reckless hit-and-run trailer driver who fled the location immediately after the collision.
Recounting the harrowing ordeal, an eyewitness who requested anonymity explained that the victim and his academy teammates were journeying in a convoy of two vehicles to honour an upcoming football match. The journey took a horrifying turn when a trailer unexpectedly veered across lanes, violently striking the Mercedes-Benz and causing it to crash directly into the bus.
While everyone else in the bus and the remaining occupants of the car managed to escape with their lives, the young footballer sustained fatal injuries. The mangled wreckage of the Mercedes-Benz, bearing the registration number SMK-878KX, was severely crushed in the impact, prompting traffic authorities and police officers to work swiftly at the scene to clear the obstruction and restore normalcy to the heavily congested route.
