Arsenal strengthened their position in the Premier League title race with an important 1-0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield, moving to the top of the table after a closely contested encounter.
Kai Havertz proved to be the difference between the two sides, scoring the only goal of the match in the 16th minute. The German forward connected with Declan Rice’s low delivery into the penalty area to give the Gunners an early advantage.
The goal came after Arsenal capitalised on a Liverpool mistake during their build-up from the back, punishing the hosts for their defensive lapse.
Liverpool responded by pushing forward in search of an equaliser, but Arsenal remained organised and difficult to break down. Florian Wirtz came close to restoring parity with a free kick that struck the crossbar, while Alexis Mac Allister failed to direct his header on target.
The hosts continued to apply pressure after the interval, enjoying more possession and creating several attacking opportunities. However, Arsenal’s defence stood firm, with goalkeeper David Raya and his teammates doing enough to keep Liverpool at bay.
At the other end, Alisson Becker produced an important save to prevent Christos Tzolis from extending Arsenal’s lead.
Despite Liverpool’s efforts to rescue a point, Mikel Arteta’s men held on until the final whistle to secure a valuable away victory.
The result moves Arsenal to the top of the Premier League standings on 24 points, taking them above Manchester City. It also brings Liverpool’s five match winning run to an end, handing the Gunners an important boost in the race for the title.
