Adebayo Adelabu, the Minister of Power, has officially stepped down from his position to focus on his ambition to become the next governor of Oyo State. The decision was formalized in a resignation letter addressed to President Bola Tinubu, dated April 22, 2026. This move marks a significant shift in the federal cabinet as the political season begins to gain momentum.
Adelabu’s departure will officially take effect on April 30, 2026. He explained that this short window is intended to provide enough time for a professional and organized handover of his duties within the ministry. The letter, which was processed through the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, reflected a tone of deep appreciation for the opportunity to serve at the national level.
In his message to the President, Adelabu expressed his profound gratitude for the confidence placed in him. He described his tenure as a rare honor and a privilege, noting that it was a significant personal milestone to contribute to Nigeria’s development under the current administration.
During his time in office, Adelabu was at the forefront of various reforms aimed at stabilizing the power sector. He emphasized that working on the nation’s energy infrastructure was a critical task, as it remains a primary foundation for the country’s industrial growth and broader economic transformation. As he prepares to transition back to the political landscape of Oyo State, the ministry will now look toward a new leadership phase to continue the ongoing reforms he helped initiate.
