NerdzFactory Company has announced the continuation of the Experience AI programme in Nigeria for 2026, marking a major step toward strengthening artificial intelligence education in public secondary schools across the country.
The initiative, delivered in partnership with the Raspberry Pi Foundation, builds on the success of its first year, during which 1,142 teachers from public secondary schools across Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo and Ekiti states received practical training on the basics of artificial intelligence and how to teach the subject in their classrooms.
The free programme is designed to give teachers the knowledge, confidence and practical resources needed to introduce AI to students in an engaging and accessible way. Its curriculum, jointly developed by the Raspberry Pi Foundation and Google DeepMind, includes lesson plans, classroom presentations, videos, student activities and assessment materials created through extensive research.
Following the achievements recorded in 2025, the programme is entering a broader phase in 2026. Alongside training a fresh group of teachers, organisers will also carry out an in depth assessment of educators who participated in the first phase. The evaluation will involve classroom visits, teacher reflection sessions and student feedback to better understand how AI lessons are being delivered in Nigerian public schools and how future editions of the programme can be improved.
The first year of the initiative adopted a combination of virtual and physical learning, making it possible for teachers in both urban centres and underserved communities to participate. Facilitators from NerdzFactory conducted online sessions alongside full day physical workshops across the Southwest, ensuring wider access to quality training.
Every teacher who completed the programme pledged to transfer the knowledge to at least 50 students. Based on that commitment, the initiative is expected to have reached more than 57,000 secondary school students during its first year.
The programme has also received strong backing from education authorities across the participating states. Senior government officials, including Ekiti State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Olabimpe Aderiye, took part in the initial rollout, reflecting growing recognition that AI literacy has become an essential part of preparing students for the future.
Training for the 2026 cohort is already underway using the same blended learning approach that proved successful during the previous year. The expansion is expected to bring AI education to even more teachers while increasing the programme’s reach across Nigerian public secondary schools.
Students taking part in the Experience AI curriculum are introduced to the core principles of artificial intelligence, how computers learn from data, bias in AI systems, large language models, AI safety, media literacy and the growing career opportunities within the digital economy.
Speaking on the 2026 expansion, Programmes Supervisor at NerdzFactory Company, Omozele Umoren, said Nigerian public school teachers have shown they are prepared to embrace artificial intelligence, adding that what has been lacking is structured access to learning materials designed for local classrooms and the national curriculum.
According to Umoren, the focus this year is to gain a clearer understanding of how AI can be effectively integrated into everyday teaching, identify the support teachers still require and assess whether students are developing meaningful knowledge of the technology.
Also commenting on the programme, Director of Global Partnerships at the Raspberry Pi Foundation, Anna Burton Corea, expressed excitement over the continued collaboration with NerdzFactory. She said the partnership would help extend the impact of Experience AI to thousands more teachers and students, ensuring that young people across Nigeria, regardless of their background, gain a solid understanding of artificial intelligence and its growing role in everyday life.
With plans to train 3,150 teachers and reach more than 157,000 students nationwide, Experience AI is emerging as one of the country’s largest AI education initiatives for public secondary schools.
