The excitement is building up in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State as everything is now set for the third edition of the tenth Senate President National U-18 Unity Cup. With just six days left before the opening whistle, sports enthusiasts and young athletes alike are gearing up for a vibrant display of youthful energy and football passion.
Speaking on the preparations, the Chairman of the Main Organising Committee, John Ekpenyong, revealed that twenty-four states have successfully secured their spots by picking up participation forms. He also mentioned that while several international teams expressed strong interest in joining the contest, they had to be politely turned down to keep the competition strictly aligned with its core domestic objectives. While future editions might open doors for international participation, the current focus remains firmly on nurturing local talent.
Teams representing these twenty-four states will compete across both male and female categories, transforming the region into a hub of athletic promise. Beyond the competition itself, the tournament serves as a crucial platform for national unity, discovering raw grassroots talent, and paving the way for the next generation of Nigerian football stars to shine on a bigger stage. Expectations are high for a memorable sporting fiesta when hostilities officially commence on October 25.
