Former Super Eagles striker Emmanuel Emenike is once again speaking out, this time detailing a distressing ordeal involving law enforcement officers and state waste management officials who recently targeted his medical facility in Owerri, the Imo State capital.
According to the retired football star, security operatives and enforcement agents stormed his hospital on multiple occasions, notably on September 25 and more recently on October 21. During these raids, staff members and patients were reportedly harassed, while key personnel, including the hospital administrator and the cashier, were arbitrarily arrested. Emenike expressed deep frustration over the incident, pointing out that after years of flying the country’s flag internationally, playing top-tier football in Europe, and helping Nigeria lift the Africa Cup of Nations trophy, he chose to channel his investments back home to uplift his community.
The former international forward built the medical center specifically to provide a sanctuary of healing, comfort, and hope for locals. Reflecting on the disruption, he emphasized that medical spaces should remain safe havens where patients can heal without fear, rather than environments marked by intimidation and state-backed harassment. He stressed that Imo State desperately needs investors to drive growth, but that progress is impossible without a guaranteed sense of security and respect for private infrastructure.
This latest controversy trails closely behind Emenike’s recent public outburst targeting Nigerian political leaders. Just days prior, he did not mince words in criticizing certain state governors for alleged financial mismanagement and a glaring lack of visionary development blueprints. He went as far as labeling the nation’s political landscape an arena for embezzlement, while taking law enforcement to task for allegedly shielding self-serving politicians at the expense of ordinary citizens facing severe economic hardship.
Earlier in the year, the outspoken athlete shared a candid perspective on the country’s trajectory, telling his followers that expecting meaningful change from entrenched oppressors is nothing short of a pipe dream. While acknowledging that Nigeria is blessed with abundant natural wealth capable of rivaling global hubs like the UAE, he lamented that the nation’s true potential continues to be stifled by bad leadership.
