The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Ajibola Bashiru, has launched a critical assessment of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, questioning his credentials and expertise to manage the Nigerian economy. Speaking during a recent media session monitored by Zoyols News, Bashiru expressed strong confidence that President Bola Tinubu is systematically tackling the nation’s economic challenges and predicted that voters will soundly reject Atiku in the upcoming 2027 general election.
Bashiru did not hold back when analyzing Atiku’s professional background, arguing that past titles do not automatically equate to genuine economic competence. He pointed out that Atiku trained as a hygiene specialist at the school of hygiene in Kano and later worked as a tax collector within the customs service, questioning how such a trajectory qualifies someone as an economic expert. He maintained that simply occupying the office of vice president in the past is insufficient proof of economic mastery.
Moving further into political dynamics, the ruling party official asserted that Atiku shares significant blame for the current economic hardships being addressed by the current administration. Describing the veteran politician’s renewed presidential ambitions as his final attempt at the presidency, Bashiru drew a comparison to the late Kenyan opposition figure Oginga Odinga, predicting a definite rejection by the Nigerian electorate at the polls.
Concluding his remarks, Bashiru took aim at opposition figures peddling what he called deceptive promises regarding fuel prices. He dismissed claims by rival politicians pledging to crash petrol prices down to two hundred or three hundred naira as outright falsehoods designed purely to court popularity. He cautioned politicians against feeding citizens unrealistic promises just to secure votes, emphasizing the need for honesty and feasibility in public discourse.
