Former Minister of Power and All Progressives Congress governorship aspirant in Oyo State, Adebayo Adelabu, has paid glowing tribute to the late former Governor Abiola Ajimobi, describing him as a father figure whose leadership and guidance played a defining role in his political journey.
Adelabu made the remarks on Thursday during the sixth year Fidau prayer held in honour of the late governor at his private residence in Oluyole Estate, Ibadan South West Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Reflecting on their relationship, Adelabu said Ajimobi was a leader who naturally attracted people through his vision, discipline and ability to inspire others.
According to him, it was Ajimobi’s approach to governance and politics that convinced him to venture into public service.
“I joined politics because of his influence. His style of leadership and governance inspired me to become involved in politics. My relationship with him was like that of a son and his father,” he said.
Adelabu also recalled that during Ajimobi’s administration, the Oyo State chapter of the APC remained united and well organised, unlike the internal divisions currently affecting the party.
He praised the late governor’s achievements in security, infrastructure and education, describing him as a leader who prepared thoroughly for the responsibilities of office and confronted challenges with determination.
Recalling his experience as Chairman of the Oyo State Security Trust Fund, Adelabu said Ajimobi was committed to making the state safe, adding that the former governor’s strong resolve contributed greatly to improving security across Oyo State.
He urged party members to put aside personal ambitions, embrace reconciliation and work together ahead of the 2027 elections with the goal of returning the APC to power in the state.
Also speaking at the event, former Secretary to the State Government, Olalekan Ali, appealed to members of the party to unite and focus on rebuilding the APC.
He encouraged all aggrieved members to forgive one another, make necessary compromises and remember that political success ultimately rests in the hands of God.
Ali urged members across Oyo State to see themselves as one family and remain patient while efforts continue to address the challenges facing the party.
Senator representing Oyo North, Abdulfatai Buhari, also honoured the late governor, describing him as a principled, courageous and straightforward leader who was never afraid to speak the truth.
He acknowledged that Ajimobi played a major role in shaping his political career and admitted that the APC is currently facing serious internal challenges that can only be resolved through honesty, courage and sincere dialogue.
In his sermon, the Chief Imam of Oluyole Estate Extension, Mudathir Bada, said the gathering was not only an opportunity to remember the late governor but also a reminder that the fear of God remains the foundation of a meaningful life.
The prayer session attracted members of Ajimobi’s family, political associates, friends and several public office holders from different parts of the country, who gathered to honour the late former governor’s legacy.
