Tobi Amusan delivered a masterclass in resilience and speed on Sunday, storming to victory in the women’s 100m hurdles at the Paris Diamond League. The Nigerian track star crossed the finish line in a blistering 12.28 seconds, a performance that not only secured her the top spot but also perfectly matched her fastest time of the season.
The race was a testament to Amusan’s elite finishing power. Standing in her way early on was Nadine Visser, who exploded out of the blocks to take an initial lead. However, Amusan refused to panic, steadily eating into the gap before shifting into a higher gear. Once she pulled ahead, she completely broke away from the rest of the field, leaving her competitors fighting for the remaining podium spots.
American hurdlers Grace Stark and Alaysha Johnson tried to match her late-race surge but ultimately had to settle for minor honors. Stark grabbed the second position with a time of 12.38 seconds, while Johnson followed closely behind in 12.39 seconds to take third.
This victory marks a remarkable trend of consistency for the 28-year-old hurdler. This is now the third time this year that Amusan has stopped the clock at exactly 12.28 seconds. She previously hit the identical mark during her dominant outings at the Xiamen and Rabat legs of the Diamond League circuit back in May.
The Paris win adds another feather to what is turning out to be a highly successful campaign. It counts as her second Diamond League circuit victory of the season, alongside an impressive win at the New Taipei City Athletics Open earlier in the month.
Amusan kicked off her year on a high note by defending her continental dominance, securing a fourth consecutive African title. Since then, she has used every single appearance on the track to sharpen her form and build crucial momentum. With the Diamond League final and the Commonwealth Games looming on the horizon later this year, the former three-time Diamond League champion looks primed to reclaim the global crown she held firmly between 2021 and 2023.
