Unfrozen Iran Funds to Be Held in US Controlled Escrow, Says Trump
United States President Donald Trump has disclosed that any Iranian assets released under sanctions relief will be placed in a US controlled escrow account and used solely to purchase humanitarian supplies from American producers.
In a post shared on his Truth Social platform, Trump explained that the funds would be restricted to buying essential items such as food and medical supplies from the United States. According to him, the arrangement is designed to ensure the money is used strictly for humanitarian purposes.
He stated that the funds released by the US Treasury would remain under Washington’s control and would only be spent on approved purchases, including corn, wheat and soybeans produced by American farmers.
Trump described the situation as a humanitarian emergency that requires immediate action.
“This is a humanitarian crisis, and I feel it is necessary to help now before it is too late,” he said.
The announcement comes as Washington and Tehran continue discussions following the signing of an agreement intended to bring an end to the conflict in the Middle East. Both sides are currently negotiating critical issues, including the future of Iran’s nuclear programme, as part of efforts to secure a lasting peace.
Under the proposed arrangement, Iran is expected to receive limited sanctions relief from the United States alongside access to some of its previously frozen assets.
Zoyols News reports that the US Treasury Department had earlier announced a temporary easing of sanctions on Iran. The measure allows the country to produce, sell and deliver crude oil and related petroleum products until August 21 while negotiations between both nations continue.
