Xiaomi takes aim at Nigeria’s smartphone market with the Redmi 17, a device built around a massive 7,500mAh battery designed to tackle the country’s frequent power issues.
The phone targets heavy users—students and young professionals—who need their devices to last through long days of work, learning, and entertainment without constant charging. To support this, Xiaomi pairs the large battery with 45W fast charging and 22.5W reverse charging capability, allowing the device to also power other gadgets.
Alongside strong battery life, the Redmi 17 features a 6.9-inch 120Hz display with Gorilla Glass 7i protection, a MediaTek Helio G91-Ultra processor, and a 50MP dual-camera setup. It also carries an IP64 rating for basic dust and splash resistance.
The phone is scheduled to launch in Nigeria on September 1, 2026. Xiaomi is positioning the Redmi 17 as a practical choice for users who value long-lasting battery performance in a market where reliable electricity remains a challenge.
