Singapore offers families nearly N94m for each newborn

Zoyols News

The government announced a new S$62,000 package during Prime Minister Lawrence Wong’s National Day Rally speech. When combined with existing benefits, the total support for each child from birth to age 17 will reach around S$70,000, or roughly N94 million.

The package includes a S$10,000 cash Baby Gift paid in the first year, S$32,000 in annual Child Credits, a S$5,000 grant into the Child Development Account, up to S$5,000 in government matching, and a S$10,000 top-up to the child’s education account at age 17. Additional support such as the MediSave Grant and Edusave contributions are also included.

Wong explained that the goal is to simplify the current system, which many parents find confusing, and to provide consistent support as children grow rather than only at birth. The new measures will benefit more than 610,000 children across 380,000 households.

This forms part of Singapore’s ongoing efforts to encourage higher birth rates by giving families real, sustained financial help at every stage.
