Apple has rolled out a new Mac mini powered by its M6 chip, positioning the small desktop as a machine built for running advanced AI tasks directly on the device instead of relying on the cloud.
The M6 model offers up to four times faster AI performance than the previous M4 version, along with twice the graphics and storage speed and a 40 percent boost in CPU performance. A more powerful M5 Pro version is also available for developers and professionals who need extra muscle for demanding AI, video, and 3D work.
Both models keep the Mac mini’s compact five-by-five-inch size while delivering major upgrades. The standard M6 comes with a 12-core CPU, 12-core GPU, up to 32GB of unified memory, and starts at $899. The M5 Pro version supports up to 18 CPU cores, 20 GPU cores, 64GB of memory, and begins at $1,699.
Connectivity has been refreshed with Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and optional 10-gigabit Ethernet. The M6 uses Thunderbolt 4 ports, while the M5 Pro switches to Thunderbolt 5. Apple says the new machines will support the next version of macOS and the latest Apple Intelligence features when they arrive.
Preorders open now, with customer deliveries and in-store availability scheduled for September 22.
