Governor Hyacinth Alia has told Benue people that no part of the state’s land will be handed to herders, as he pressed for tighter unity and a harder security fight across the state.
The Rev. Fr. Alia gave the pledge on Monday when he met community leaders from Katsina-Ala, Ukum, Logo, Kwande, Ushongo and Jechira during his statewide appreciation tour. He said his government would keep confronting insecurity and guarding ancestral land, and he thanked President Bola Tinubu for steps taken to strengthen security while restating his duty to protect lives and property.
He said the coming of the Nigerian Army 5 Division had given Benue more muscle against threats, and he assured traditional rulers that the administration would keep working with them on peace, dispute settlement and community growth.
In Sankera he sat with traditional rulers, clerics, politicians and community representatives. The Tor Sankera, David Sevav, asked for stronger action to restore peace, repairs to the waterworks, and more government jobs for people from the area. Former Governor Gabriel Suswam, who travelled with Alia, praised ongoing infrastructure work, said Sankera stood behind Alia’s re-election bid and President Tinubu’s campaign, and called for continued togetherness. Federal lawmaker Solomon Wombo also urged closer political unity and grassroots support.
In Kwande the governor held separate talks with traditional rulers, religious leaders and political figures, asking them to stay united for the state’s progress. He credited traditional rulers with peacebuilding and conflict resolution, and he commended religious leaders for preaching peace, urging them to keep drawing residents together. At a political meeting he told leaders to put Benue first, set personal rivalries aside and back the work already done. Similar sessions in Jechira stressed unity, discipline and active participation in development.
APC State Chairman Benjamin Omale thanked stakeholders from the three areas for their support and asked them to hold the line toward 2027. Kwande APC leader Moses Ternenge pledged backing for Alia, Tinubu and the party’s candidates.
