Dino Melaye has criticised the structure of President Tinubu’s 2027 campaign council and threatened to take some of the appointments to court.
The former senator particularly raised concerns about Zacch Adedeji, Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service, being named Deputy Director of Fundraising for the president’s re-election bid. He argued that the dual role creates a clear conflict of interest, as someone tasked with raising government revenue cannot at the same time be responsible for mobilising funds for a political campaign.
Melaye described the arrangement as desperate and unacceptable, insisting that Nigeria should not be run like a banana republic. He said the move shows the intention to use Adedeji’s position at the revenue agency to generate funds for the president’s re-election. He maintained that even if the list is later reviewed or suspended, he would still proceed to court to seek proper judicial interpretation of the matter.
He also questioned Tinubu’s decision to head his own campaign council, describing it as unusual and suggesting the president does not fully trust his team to run the campaign independently. Melaye added that the opposition will closely monitor every step of the 2027 process and will not allow any form of malpractice to go unchallenged.
