Anambra Police Raid Obosi Drug Den, Seize Millions in Narcotics

Anambra State police have dismantled a significant narcotics operation in Obosi, delivering a major blow to illegal distribution networks within the Idemili North Local Government Area. In a tactical strike executed early Tuesday morning, officers from the Rapid Response Squad in Awkuzu caught key operators off guard, effectively shutting down a site that had long served as a hub for illicit activity.

The raid led to the arrest of 47-year-old Nzube Onyedikachukwu, known locally as “Onyeoma,” and 20-year-old Ugochukwu Azia. During the search, authorities recovered a substantial quantity of suspected Cannabis sativa and methamphetamine, with a street value estimated at ₦6.2 million, along with nearly ₦600,000 in cash.

Intelligence reports gathered by the police suggest that the facility acted as more than just a distribution point; it was a gathering place for criminal elements looking to regroup after their illegal operations. While several other suspects managed to evade capture by fleeing the scene as officers arrived, those in custody are now being interrogated. Investigators are currently working to map out the broader supply chain and determine the origins of the seized substances and currency.

The state command has emphasized that this operation is part of a wider, intelligence-driven campaign to dismantle criminal hideouts across the country, following directives from the Inspector-General of Police. As the investigation continues, officials are calling on traditional rulers, community leaders, and residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements. The police have reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining these targeted operations until such criminal strongholds are fully neutralized across Anambra.
