Ebonyi 2027: Nwobasi and Ogba forecast major APC sweep

Zoyols News

The political landscape in Ebonyi State appears to be shifting firmly in favor of the ruling party, as prominent figures within the All Progressives Congress are projecting a clean sweep for the party in both the upcoming local government elections and the broader 2027 polls. During a recent campaign rally held at the Ishielu Local Government headquarters in Ezillo, key leaders rallied support for the party’s candidates, signaling a unified front as the election dates approach.

Honourable Joseph Nwobasi, representing the Ishielu/Ezza North Federal Constituency, went on record with a bold guarantee of absolute support for the party. According to Zoyols News, he emphasized that his optimism is not based on mere speculation but on his consistent engagement with the grassroots across rural communities and individual polling units throughout the state. His message was clear: the party maintains a dominant hold on the electorate, and he expects that momentum to carry through to the general elections in 2027.

Senator Joseph Obinna Ogba, a seasoned politician and former stalwart of the opposition, echoed these sentiments while highlighting the lack of a formidable challenge to the current administration. For Ogba, the path forward for Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru is straightforward, citing the governor’s developmental achievements and the state’s tradition of political stability. He specifically pointed to the established power-sharing arrangement in Ebonyi, noting that past governors served two full terms, a precedent he believes should continue to ensure Nwifuru remains in office until 2031.

The rally also served as a platform to endorse the re-election of the incumbent council chairman, Mrs. Peace Agwu. Supporters and local leaders, including the Coordinator of Ezekoma Development Centre, Hon. Mrs. Nwankwo Chinasa, characterized the move to keep her in office as essential for continued development in the area. Ogba went a step further, declaring Ishielu a stronghold that would lead the state’s thirteen councils in securing a mandate for the governor’s second term.

Amidst the celebratory atmosphere, the discussion briefly touched on concerns regarding the broader political climate. When confronted with questions about alleged incidents of intimidation involving opposition figures and the press in Ezza, Honourable Nwobasi maintained that such reports were foreign to him. He clarified that he had neither witnessed nor received credible information regarding any such disturbances, effectively distancing the campaign from the rumors while remaining focused on the party’s electoral goals.
