As Globacom marks its 23rd anniversary, the company has reached a significant milestone, boasting over 23.1 million active subscribers. This achievement, detailed in the latest industry report from the sector regulator, underscores the network’s enduring influence within Nigeria’s competitive telecommunications landscape.
Data from the regulator’s April 2026 report highlights the steady growth the operator has enjoyed leading up to its anniversary. Having officially launched on August 29, 2003, the provider has spent over two decades cementing its footprint, and these current figures reflect a notable upward trend. Over the past year alone, the company’s active subscriber base grew from 20.61 million in April 2025 to over 23.17 million in April 2026, marking a significant net gain of approximately 2.57 million users.
This expansion is particularly noteworthy as it follows recent industry-wide adjustments prompted by the mandatory NIN-SIM verification process. While the broader market remains dominated by various players—with MTN holding the largest market share, followed by Airtel, and 9mobile maintaining its position—the sustained growth at Globacom points to a successful strategy in customer retention and market engagement.
Beyond individual performance, the industry data presents a broader picture of Nigeria’s digital evolution. The report indicates a national teledensity of 86.73 per cent, alongside more than 120 million broadband subscriptions. With internet consumption hitting over 1.41 million terabytes in April alone, the figures illustrate the critical role mobile connectivity continues to play for individuals, public institutions, and businesses across the country. For the operator, these latest milestones serve as a robust indicator of its market presence as it enters its 24th year of operations.
