Chevron Seeks Long-Term Investment for Nigeria’s Energy Future

Chevron Nigeria Limited has issued a call for deeper synergy between government agencies, regulatory bodies, and industry players to fortify the nation’s oil and gas sector. The company emphasized that this unified approach is the only viable path to unlocking sustainable economic growth, creating employment, and ensuring long-term energy security for the country.

During the recently concluded 49th Nigerian Annual International Conference and Exhibition in Lagos, the Managing Director of Chevron Nigeria Limited, Jim Swartz, underscored the vast potential inherent in Nigeria’s energy sector. He pointed out that the scale of the current landscape is far too expansive for any single entity to navigate in isolation. Swartz stressed that success hinges on collective responsibility, noting that no single company or institution possesses the capacity to resolve the multifaceted challenges and opportunities facing the industry today.

The event, themed “Thriving in the Evolving Global Energy Landscape: Collaborative Growth and Resilience,” served as a platform for experts to dissect how Nigeria can effectively attract global investment and maintain production levels despite the unpredictability of international markets. Technology, Swartz added, would continue to serve as the backbone for safer operations and higher performance levels as the industry pivots toward the future.

To secure a resilient energy path, the Chevron chief outlined a strategic framework centered on four core pillars. These include a commitment to sustained capital investment, the implementation of long-term, enabling policies, the cultivation of competitive local capacity, and the forging of robust partnerships across the technical and regulatory communities.

Reflecting on the company’s extensive history, Swartz highlighted Chevron’s over six decades of operations within Nigeria. He noted that throughout this period, the organization has remained dedicated to building the foundational pillars of the industry while actively fostering the growth of local technical expertise. This legacy, he suggested, provides a solid blueprint for the collaborative future the industry must now embrace to thrive.
