The Nigerian Law School has launched an investigation following the death of 23-year-old student Faith Alayande, who fell from the rooftop of a hostel at the Lagos campus early on Friday.
Alayande, enrolled at the Enugu campus, was in Lagos for her externship programme when the incident occurred around 4am. Preliminary findings from the school indicate she died from injuries sustained in the fall.
In a statement, the Secretary to the Council and Director of Administration, Aderonke Osho, said the institution is working closely with relevant authorities and the family to establish the full circumstances. The school expressed deep sadness over the tragedy and has pledged to provide further information once procedures are completed.
The management has extended its condolences to the family, colleagues and everyone affected, while respecting the family’s request for privacy during their period of mourning.
Lagos police have also confirmed the incident. Officers were notified by the hostel matron after the student was found unresponsive on the premises. They visited the scene, removed the body to a mortuary and have opened an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.
The law school has reaffirmed its commitment to the safety and welfare of all students and staff.
