The Enugu City International Marathon is drawing strong interest from athletes as registration for the second edition gains momentum ahead of the August 29 race. Elite runners, local competitors and participants from abroad are all stepping up preparations for the event.
Organized by Nilayo Sports Management with support from the Enugu State Government, the marathon is quickly establishing itself as a high-standard road race aimed at promoting tourism, engaging young people and supporting economic activity in the South-East.
Mrs. Yetunde Olopade, CEO of Nilayo Sports Management, said she has been encouraged by the response. She noted that both local and international athletes have been registering in good numbers, describing the turnout as impressive and a sign of growing trust in the event’s quality and rewards for top performers.
With registration still open, she called on talented young runners from the South-South and South-East regions to sign up and take advantage of the platform.
The elite 42km race will start at 6:30 a.m. from ShopRite on Abakaliki Road and pass through major landmarks in Enugu. The 10km fun run begins at 8:30 a.m. from Chris Tee Petrol Station on CIC Road and finishes at Opara Square by 12:30 p.m.
Organizers say arrangements for logistics, security, medical support and athlete hospitality are at an advanced stage. The marathon is positioning itself as an annual flagship event that blends sporting excellence with lasting benefits for the state.
