The Nasarawa State Police Command has finalized plans to launch an intensive operation known as a Show of Force, timed to precede the official start of political campaigns across the state. This security measure is set to begin in anticipation of the campaign season, which kicks off nationwide this Wednesday, August 19, 2026.
According to a statement released on Sunday by the command’s spokesperson, SP Ranham Nansel, the initiative is a joint effort between the police and other security agencies operating within the state. The primary goal is to signal to the public that security forces are fully prepared to maintain law and order, protect lives, and secure property throughout the upcoming political period.
The tactical deployment will follow a structured schedule, starting in Lafia to cover the Southern Senatorial District. From there, the operation will extend to the Northern Senatorial District, specifically targeting Nasarawa Eggon, Wamba, and Akwanga, before moving into the Western Senatorial District to cover Keffi, Karu, and Nasarawa. Security teams will be stationed at key entry and exit points across the state, and residents should expect increased stop-and-search activities as part of the effort to intercept criminal elements or prohibited items.
The Commissioner of Police in Nasarawa, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, has moved to dispel any notions that this exercise is meant to intimidate any political group or individual. He clarified that the move is strictly a proactive security measure intended to foster a peaceful atmosphere for both residents and visitors.
While the increased presence of armed personnel may be visible in Lafia and other strategic areas, the command has urged the public to remain calm and continue with their daily activities without alarm. The Commissioner has asked for the cooperation of all residents during these security checks and encouraged the prompt reporting of any suspicious movements or individuals to the nearest security office. The command remains focused on ensuring that the state remains secure during the transition into the new political campaign cycle.
