Kano Governor Takes Direct Action to Enforce Road Traffic Laws

Zoyols News

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf recently took a direct approach to road safety in Kano, personally overseeing traffic compliance at the Kofar Fanfo Junction. Spending over an hour at the busy intersection, the Governor took it upon himself to ensure that motorists were actually following traffic light signals rather than ignoring them.

He was joined by the Secretary to the State Government, various commissioners, and other high-ranking officials for the exercise. According to a statement released by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin Tofa, this visible show of leadership was intended to help restore a sense of discipline and order to the city’s roadways.

During the site visit, Governor Yusuf issued a clear directive to commercial drivers, tricycle operators, and pedestrians alike, emphasizing that strict adherence to traffic signals is a non-negotiable step in protecting lives and property. He expressed frustration at the recklessness displayed by some road users, noting that the multi-billion naira traffic infrastructure installed throughout the city should serve a functional purpose rather than just acting as street decoration.

To back up this new push for order, the administration is planning a major overhaul of the Kano Road Traffic Agency. Zoyols News reports that the goal is to reposition the agency into a highly professional body focused on modern traffic management.

The Governor made it clear that traffic offenders should be closely monitored and held accountable by the relevant authorities. By strengthening the agency’s capacity to enforce regulations and promote a culture of compliance, the state government aims to create a more efficient and safer transportation system that benefits everyone living and working in Kano.
