The Chairman of the Accord Party in Osun State, Victor Akande, has firmly restated that Governor Ademola Adeleke remains the party’s only choice for the upcoming governorship election scheduled for August 8. Addressing journalists in Osogbo, Akande dismissed any internal opposition, making it clear that the party is fully aligned behind the Governor’s second-term ambition.
Akande addressed rumors regarding a supposed rival candidate within the party, Clement Bamigbola. He described the move as a complete waste of resources, asserting that the primary election that purportedly produced Bamigbola was a “kangaroo” exercise conducted by a faction that has no legal standing. Akande reassured supporters that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) recognizes only the leadership under Barrister Maxwell Mgbudem, as seen in recent elections in other states like Anambra and Ekiti.
The party chairman did not hold back in his criticism of those claiming a split within the Accord Party. He labeled them as political jobbers who are merely seeking attention for personal gain. He insisted that as far as the party’s official ticket is concerned, Governor Adeleke is standing unopposed and has no credible rivals within their ranks.
Turning his attention to the broader political race, Akande expressed total confidence that the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, do not pose a threat to the Governor. He argued that the people of Osun State have already made their stance clear when they voted the APC out in 2022. According to him, the electorate is not ready to return to a time they associate with poor governance and the controversial payment of half-salaries to workers.
Akande believes the upcoming August election will serve as a final confirmation of the people’s preference. He noted that voters are eager to speak even louder this time around to ensure the state does not slide back into what he described as an “era of darkness.” For the Accord Party leadership, the focus remains entirely on securing another four-year term for Adeleke to continue his current programs.
