Dubai Cancels Easter Masses as Regional Conflict Escalates

Zoyols News

All Catholic masses in Dubai have been suspended as the escalating conflict in the Middle East continues to impact daily life in the United Arab Emirates. The announcement came from two major Catholic churches on Friday, just as the community was preparing for Easter celebrations. The decision follows new government directives aimed at ensuring public safety amidst the ongoing regional instability.

St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, located in the Jebel Ali area of Dubai, informed its congregation that all services are cancelled until further notice. This coastal district has unfortunately been in the line of fire recently, having been hit several times by missiles and drones. These strikes are part of the broader retaliatory actions following the military offensive launched on February 28. In a statement shared with Reports, church officials urged parishioners to stay away from the premises for their own protection and the well-being of the wider community.

St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dubai issued a similar notice on its official platform, confirming that physical gatherings will not take place. To ensure that the faithful can still participate in their religious obligations, the church announced that the Good Friday service would instead be live-streamed. This shift to digital worship via the church’s YouTube channel is a necessary measure to maintain the spirit of the holy season while navigating the current security challenges.

The sudden cancellation has cast a somber shadow over what is usually a vibrant and busy time for the Christian community in the UAE. Residents have expressed their disappointment but recognize the gravity of the situation as the war continues to roil neighboring Gulf states. For now, the focus remains on the safety of the public as the region waits for a de-escalation of the violence.
