The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has scheduled its 2026 Policy Meeting for Monday, May 11, a high-stakes gathering where the official cutoff marks for the 2026/2027 academic session will be finalized. This annual event remains the most significant date on the Nigerian academic calendar for tertiary admissions, as it brings together the heads of various institutions to agree on the minimum standards for entry.
According to a statement released on Sunday by the board’s spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, the meeting is set to take place at the Body of Benchers Auditorium in Jabi, Abuja. During the session, the Minister of Education, Maruf Olatunji Alausa, is expected to unveil the primary policy directions that will govern how universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education conduct their intake for the upcoming year.
Reports obtained by Zoyols Blog indicate that the meeting serves as a platform to establish “minimum tolerable” UTME scores while ensuring that all institutions align with national admission guidelines. The board emphasized that strict adherence to these rules is mandatory to maintain the integrity of the Nigerian education system. Beyond just numbers, the session sets the overall tone for the entire 2026/2027 admission cycle.
The guest list for the event is a roll call of the country’s top academic leadership, including Vice-Chancellors, Rectors, Provosts, and Registrars, alongside their respective admission officers. Regulatory giants like the National Universities Commission (NUC), the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), and the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) will also be in attendance to oversee the proceedings.
Adding to the significance of the day, the 6th edition of the National Tertiary Admissions Performance-Merit Awards (NATAP-M) will be held during the event. These awards are designed to recognize and reward institutions that have shown exceptional compliance with admission standards. With contributions expected from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), the meeting promises to address the broader landscape of student welfare and academic excellence.
