Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, has expressed deep appreciation for the Federal Government and the troops of Operation Hadin Kai following the successful rescue of several captives in Gwoza. The individuals, primarily women and children, were among the 416 people recently abducted by suspected Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists from Ngoshe village. This breakthrough comes as a relief to the affected families, with the latest group of six survivors reunited with their loved ones on May 1, 2026.
According to reports during an interview in Maiduguri, the Senator noted that the rescue was the result of a sustained military offensive. Recent air interdictions and ground operations have targeted key terrorist hideouts in the Mandara Mountains and the deserted Amuda axis, a known transit point for insurgents between Ngoshe and Gava. While celebrating these successes, Ndume urged those claiming to mediate the situation to act with caution and transparency.
Specifically, the Senator addressed the Borno South Youth Alliance (BOSYA) and its president, Samaila Kaigama. He advised the group to coordinate strictly with formal security agencies rather than making public claims that could politicize the delicate situation. Ndume clarified that although the events took place in his home local government of Gwoza, he is not a security officer and believes all communication with abductors should be handled by the proper military authorities to ensure the safety of those still in captivity.
In a more somber turn, the former Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army also extended his condolences to the people of Chibok. On April 30, 2026, an insurgent invasion of Kautikari village tragically claimed the lives of six residents. Ndume prayed for the souls of the departed and asked for strength for their families, while also acknowledging the bravery of the troops whose swift intervention prevented even greater carnage during the attack.
