King Suanu Timothy Baridam, a prominent Rivers State monarch, has vehemently denied recent allegations linking him to criminal networks and cult groups operating within his domain. The Chairman of the Khana Local Government Area Council of Traditional Rulers described the claims as a deliberate attempt to defame his character and undermine his years of community service.
The controversy stems from accusations leveled by local youth leaders who pointed fingers at the traditional ruler for allegedly sponsoring criminal activities in the area. Responding swiftly through a statement released on Monday by his media consultant, Dr. Domene Mea, the traditional ruler labeled the accusations as reckless, malicious, and entirely unfounded, cutting off any association with unlawful elements.
For years, the monarch has built a reputation centered on the stability and growth of the Bangha Kingdom, Nyokana District, and the broader Ogoni community. In his capacity as the head of the traditional council, he has maintained a close working relationship with security agencies, state authorities, and grassroots stakeholders to curb insecurity and foster a peaceful environment for his people.
The recent smear campaign has not sat well with the palace. King Baridam has formally issued a strict seven-day ultimatum to the two youth leaders at the center of the allegations, identified as Felix Giadom and Felix Poroma. He is demanding an immediate retraction of their statements alongside a public apology to be published across major media outlets.
This indicates that the monarch is prepared to take the matter to court if the ultimatum expires without a satisfactory response. Legal representatives are reportedly on standby to file a defamation lawsuit to protect the integrity of the stool.
Despite the distraction, the traditional ruler has urged residents of the Khana local government area and the wider Ogoni land to remain calm and dismiss the rumors. He reiterated his unwavering commitment to driving sustainable development, unity, and safety across the region, assuring his subjects that no amount of blackmail would derail his focus on their welfare.
