President Bola Tinubu has fulfilled his financial reward promise to the Super Falcons following their historic victory at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), with each player receiving the naira equivalent of $100,000.
Members of the team’s coaching crew and officials also received their promised rewards, with each person paid the equivalent of $50,000.
The National Sports Commission (NSC) confirmed the payments on Monday, describing the development as another demonstration of the Federal Government’s commitment to honouring its promises to Nigerian athletes.
The rewards followed the Super Falcons’ remarkable achievement in July 2025, when they defeated Morocco 3-2 in a thrilling final in Rabat to secure their 10th continental championship.
Despite falling two goals behind, the Nigerian side staged an impressive comeback to overturn the deficit and reclaim the African title.
Beyond the financial rewards, the players had earlier received documents confirming the allocation of three bedroom apartments in Abuja, alongside the conferment of the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).
Reacting to the development, NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko praised President Tinubu for fulfilling his commitment and ensuring that the players and officials received their rewards without unnecessary delays.
Dikko noted that Nigerian athletes have often had to wait for years before receiving incentives promised to them after major sporting achievements. He said the prompt payment to the Super Falcons represents a welcome change and shows that government commitments to sportsmen and women can be honoured within a reasonable timeframe.
The latest development also follows a similar gesture towards Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, whose players and officials received comparable financial rewards in September 2026 after winning their fifth consecutive AfroBasket championship.
The fulfilment of the Super Falcons’ rewards is expected to further boost morale among Nigerian athletes and reinforce the importance of recognising excellence in the country’s sporting sector.
The latest payment marks the completion of another major part of the Federal Government’s pledge to reward the Super Falcons for bringing continental glory to Nigeria.
