Afreximbank Backs Nigerian Film ‘77: The Festac Conspiracy’

Afreximbank’s Canex Creations has signed an agreement to support Nigerian film “77: The Festac Conspiracy”, the sequel to “76”, through its $2 billion fund.

The deal was signed by the film’s executive producer, Prince Tonye T. J. T. Princewill, at the 2026 Canex Weekend in Lagos. Afreximbank Executive Vice President and Canex Creations board chair Kanayo Awani joined the signatories at the ceremony, held at the National Theatre’s Banquet Hall.

Canex Creations CEO Osahon Akpata pledged the company’s full support, describing the project as “a film Africa can be proud of”. He also encouraged other filmmakers to follow Adonis Production’s example and pursue high standards.

Princewill thanked the team for backing the film and said he hoped the partnership would encourage further investment in African productions.

“77: The Festac Conspiracy” is expected in cinemas in early 2027. The film looks back at the Festival of Arts and Culture that inspired Festac Town. Princewill said he was honoured to mark its 50th anniversary through the project.
