The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Jigawa State has explained why former governor and ex Minister of Defence, Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, was not included in its recently announced governorship campaign council.
The Speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly, Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin, offered the explanation while responding to questions from journalists about the former governor’s absence from the list.
According to Dangyatin, Badaru’s exclusion was a deliberate decision based on his wider political responsibilities ahead of the 2027 general elections. He explained that, as a prominent figure within the party, the former governor was expected to play a broader role in coordinating its activities beyond Jigawa State.
The Speaker argued that placing Badaru on the state governorship campaign council could restrict his ability to contribute effectively to the APC’s campaign efforts across the North and other parts of the country.
“Including the former governor in the governorship campaign council is like tying him down and restricting him from contributing to the party’s victory,” Dangyatin said.
He further disclosed that Badaru currently serves as the Director General of Arewa for Asiwaju, a position that involves coordinating political activities across the northern region and the country.
“The former governor is the Director General of Arewa for Asiwaju. He is dealing with the entire region and the country,” he added.
Dangyatin also dismissed suggestions that Badaru’s omission was linked to disagreements or divisions within the Jigawa APC. He insisted that the party remained united and maintained a good relationship with the former governor.
The Speaker urged party members and supporters not to be distracted by rumours and what he described as propaganda surrounding the issue. Instead, he called on them to concentrate on strengthening the party and mobilising support ahead of the 2027 general elections.
