Professor Pat Utomi, a chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, has firmly drawn the line regarding online engagement, stating that exchanging words with paid social media apologists is a direct affront to his personal standing. In details gathered by Zoyols News, the prominent political figure made this position clear after finding himself the target of coordinated online attacks.
The friction began when Utomi publicly challenged the nation’s leadership over the deplorable living and working conditions of Nigerian soldiers. He pointed out the sharp contrast between security personnel who risk their lives on the frontline for meager compensation and federal lawmakers who continue to amass billions of naira in allowances.
Shortly after raising these critical economic and security concerns, Utomi noticed a sudden wave of sharp criticisms directed at his person. Upon reviewing the profiles behind the accounts, he concluded that they were nothing more than internet operators loyal to the ruling party, driven primarily by short-term political gains and what he described as stomach infrastructure. Maintaining his resolve, he insisted that dignifying such compromised accounts with a response would mean compromising his values.
Looking ahead to the upcoming political cycle, Utomi also turned his attention to what he perceives as deliberate attempts by ruling party actors to instill fear among the electorate ahead of the two thousand and twenty-seven general elections. Pointing to circulating footage showing acts of voter intimidation, he urged citizens not to allow fear to keep them away from shaping their future. He emphasized that ordinary Nigerians hold immense power when they act collectively, calling on voters to reject intimidation, turn out in their numbers, and actively protect the sanctity of their ballots.
