Manchester City confirmed their place in the Carabao Cup final after a commanding 2-0 victory over Newcastle United in the second leg of the semi-final on Wednesday. With a 5-1 aggregate score, City overturned the tie comfortably, having secured a 2-0 win at St James’ Park in the first leg.
Omar Marmoush opened the scoring with a brace early in the match, and Tijjani Reijnders sealed the outcome before halftime, leaving Newcastle with little hope. The Magpies tried to fight back after the break, with Anthony Elanga pulling a goal back, but the effort wasn’t enough to change the result.
Last season’s Newcastle squad, which ended a 70-year wait for major domestic silverware, will now watch on as Pep Guardiola’s City advance to face Premier League leaders Arsenal in the final at Wembley on March 22.
